Why the infusion is there

Lips have no oil glands of their own, which is why lip balm exists. A plain adhesive strip does nothing for the skin it rests on; it simply holds. We wanted the surface that rests on the lips to care for them the way a balm would rather than the way a bandage would. Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid are the two ingredients that do that job in lip care, so they are the two we chose.

What Vitamin E is doing there

Vitamin E, listed on ingredient labels as tocopherol, is one of the most common ingredients in lip balms and skin creams. It is an oil-soluble ingredient, which means it sits comfortably with the natural oils of the skin, and it is widely used in skincare for its conditioning feel on dry skin. On a sleep strip it gives the surface against your lips a softer, more balm-like quality than bare fabric or adhesive.

What Hyaluronic Acid is doing there

Hyaluronic Acid, despite the name, is not an exfoliating acid. It is a humectant, an ingredient that attracts and holds water, and it is one of the most familiar ingredients in modern moisturisers and lip products. It has a light, non-greasy feel, which matters on something you wear to bed. On a sleep strip it pairs with the Vitamin E: one ingredient with an oil-like feel, one with a water-holding feel, which is roughly the combination a good lip balm uses.

What the infusion does not do

It is worth being clear about the limits. The infusion is there to make the strip pleasant to wear and considerate of the skin it rests on. It is not a treatment, and it does not change how the strip works. The Vivapur strip is still a sleep strip first: a soft, breathable fabric with a gentle adhesive and a comfort breathing hole, designed to encourage nasal breathing through the night. The infusion is the part that makes it feel comfortable rather than clinical.

Why it matters for people with sensitive skin

For sensitive skin, two things matter most. The first is the adhesive, which should be hypoallergenic and no stronger than it needs to be. The second is what the strip is made of on the side that touches you. Vivapur uses a soft cotton-blend fabric, a hypoallergenic adhesive, and the Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid infusion, and the strip is silicone-free and latex-free. Nothing needs to be applied beforehand; the infusion is already on the strip. If you have reacted to adhesive patches before, test a strip on the inside of your forearm for an hour before wearing it overnight.
